Summary:
Spend two days and nights in this historic National Park. Cycle through unenclosed pasture land amongst the iconic miniature ponies. Take in the forest, rivers, and the coast in this varied and beautiful part of the country. Comfortable accommodation will leave you rested and ready to tackle the next day’s adventure!
Distances: 29 & 20 miles.
Terrain: Mainly flat.
Path/Road: Forest gravel track and quiet country roads.
Physical difficulty: Moderate Saturday, easy Sunday. 3 hours cycling each day at a medium pace. Everyone will be assisted but you must be competent on a bike.
Duration: Friday night to Sunday evening.
Accommodation: Staying in the town of Lyndhurst, in either a comfortable hotel or nearby B&B.
Cost: £190pp, based on 2 people sharing a twin room (£50 single supplement).
Itinerary:
Friday: Check in to the hotel and head to a nearby pub for meet, greet and socialise.
Saturday: Jump on the bikes and head off through the forest to soak up some peace and tranquillity. Careful of the horses and other wildlife that roam freely here. Leaving the forest we follow the course of the Beaulieu river, past historic boatyards and marinas. As we emerge at the Solent it’s a short ride to Lymington marina for lunch with a sea view. Heading North up the Lymington river and back into the Forest we’ll follow our noses and sample some tea room delights before returning to the hotel. Dinner at the hotel. Drinks out in Lyndhurst or free time.
Sunday: We’ll continue exploring the Forest along the convenient disused railway cycle path. More traffic free cycle trails will take us along the ornamental arboretum and to a deer sanctuary. Lunch will be in a sunny beer garden, or by a cosy fire, depending on the weather! When you are fully immersed into the relaxing country lifestyle we’ll have to sadly wave goodbye and return to the hotel for our journeys home. Until the next time..
